I Need To Choose Between Two Laptops, A Sony Vaio And An Apple Macbook, Any Suggestions?

I’ve been saving up for a laptop, I need one before I go off to college in the fall. I have enough for a Sony VAIO [which seems like a great computer], but I’ve been wanting a MacBook. Should I just wait a while longer for the more expensive Mac? Or just get the VAIO now? anyone use these computers? MInd you, i’m just using it in college as a personal computer. I need help. Thanks.

  1. Well, the universal question is what you’re gonna be using it for. If it’s just to browse the web, play some games, or just mess around on it, I would definitely go with the VAIO. It would also be cheaper to upgrade.
I’m a PC fan, but I don’t have a problem with MAC’s if you’re using them for website designing, movie editing or recording or any other type of media. So I would NOT suggest getting a MacBook if it’s just a personal computer. Mac’s can only sell Mac parts, so you’re going to have a tough time finding cheap Mac parts.

  2. I wouldn’t suggest either.
Seeing as your in college you shouldn’t be blowing money on things.
You can get MUCH MORE for your money by buying a PC instead of a Mac. Unless you are a graphic designer the cost of the Mac will not justify its purpose.
A Sony Vaio however is also an overpriced pile of doggy poo because it is marketed for its sex appeal not its ability or durability. I have also had numerous Vaio’s replaced due to hardware malfunctions and undependable parts.
What you are asking for is a laptop to use in college so I assume you are on a budget but you need something that will handle some abuse and offer lots of functionality.
I would suggest a mid-range Dell, HP or Lenovo. Dell being the cheapest and Lenovo being the more expensive. Obviously the Lenovo is the best in durability and functionality but you get what you pay for.

  3. Easy.
    Get the Macbook :)
Even if you eventually discover you want to put on some software and it doesn’t support mac or your just angry with your mac after some time for some reason, well an easy answer again!
You install a Windows Operating system to you mac through boot camp.
If you can’t be bothered affording one then download the Windows 7 beta which lasts up to July next year for free (Download it on the Microsoft website).
Or simply run windows for other purposes you may want.
Remember you can’t have Mac on Windows, only Windows on Mac.

  4. i guess you meant mac book pro. both, mac pro and vaio are good. if you are into coding very much, then mac pro is not a good choice, its very sleek and beautiful, and powerful, but also fragile, and misses 4 important keys (HOME, PG UP, PG DOWN, END). So if you are into coding a lot, then navigating will become a nightmare without these keys. Also, Mac will always be restricted to linux or Apple OS. So better go for VAIO, will have a good graphic card if you ever want to play some games, can install OS of your choice, also mainly no key problems, but it may not look as sexy as a mac pro.
On whole I say go for VAIO. If you are sure you do nothing more than browsing and checking email, go for Mac pro

  5. I think you should get a laptop before you get in to college. To me, I would prefer to buy a sony due to its compatibility with most of the available softwares
bottom line: Get a laptop before joining college. (AVOID dell xps)
